Calathea zebrina is a variety of prayer plants known for its striking leaves that are supported by lengthy stems. The top side of the foliage has almost a velvety texture with a base colour of vibrant, light green and brush strokes of deep green. This contest can sometimes appear to give almost a neon effect. This eye-catching calathea never disappoints.
- These plants need filtered or dappled sunlight. You would want to place them in a well-lit room with windows, but away from direct light. Near a north of east facing window is probably best.
- Plants with medium or moderate water needs should be watered when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch. We encourage allowing tap water to sit for 24 hours before using. This allows some of the chlorine to dissipate.
- Calathea do not require a lot of fertilizer. Apply in spring, summer, and fall only. Use a balanced fertilizer 20-20-20 NPK. If you are in doubt about fertilizing then don't worry about using it.
